A Good Kick in the Face
lately i haven't been writing about what i'm reading and learning, but i HAVE to tell you about this book that is juuuuust kicking me in the face in a really ridiculously good way. if you are a christian and you haven't read the Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer. DO IT. every chapter is blowing me away. it's pretty short, but it's not one of those books that i want to whip through. instead, i've been reading a little bit at a time and chewing on the chapters for a week or so. the one that i've just finished is about restoring the creator-creation relationship. this is a snippet from my fave part of the chapter:
"While we take to ourselves the place that is His, the whole course of our lives is out of joint. Nothing will or can restore order till our hearts make the great decision: God shall be exalted above...."
and then after giving a non-example in Eli, he goes on to say,
"Now over against this set almost any Bible character who honestly tried to glorify God in his earthly walk. See how God winked at weakness and overlooked failures as He poured upon His servants grace and blessings untold. Let it be Abraham, Jacob, David, Daniel, Elijah or whom you will; honor followed honor as harvest the seed. The man of God set his heart to exalt God above all; God accepted his intention as fact and acted accordingly. Not perfection, but holy intention made the difference."
Holy intention comes from exalting God above all--friends, family, ambitions, jobs, money, reputation. Maaaaaan---i want that. What a nice kick in the face on this lovely Saturday!
