i'll keep this short. some of you know me. some of you don't i'm guessing. the following is a glimpse of everyday brittney. you can choose whether you want to roll your eyes or whether you find it endearing. i am what i am.

tonight i met with jo at the richmond for a one-to-one, but they had to close down their kitchen early, and so i wasn' t able to order any food. i knew that this thai restaurant was around the corner and so told jo that after we finished, i would just go there and pick something up. however, i wasn't sure if they did a takeaway of any sort. i don't know the rules of takeaway as they apply in this country. i just knew that we had ordered food to be via telephone to be picked up a month or so prior--but that doesn't necessarily mean you can just GO and order something and take it away, does it? anyway...

i walk into the restaurant and approach the thai woman. this is what i say:

"hi. so, i was wondering if it would be possible for me to order something, and to wait here while you fix it, and then to pay for it and take it away?"

she stares at me and says, "yeah...takeaway."

and i'm all, "oh right."

it didn't sound TOO bad in my head, but once the lady walked away, i looked at jo who was laughing so hard she was crying.

i guess i was hoping no one would noticed how odd the question seemed--it was the worst kind of odd question--across thai, british, and american cultures it made me look stupid.

Sometimes the phrase "Do you do takeaway?" just doesn't roll off the tongue does it...

I despair Brit, I really do.

Brit, thought yuou should know:
Today in the staffroom, whilst on lunch break I was sat swigging down gulps of orange squash from my bottle when I happened to replay this scene from last night...
I reckon there were 10-15 staff on break too to see me lurch forward in my seat and spray my drink down myself with a sound that only comes from laughing and choking at the same time...
Brit, it shot from my nose as well as my mouth.
I had staff who weren't there on the scene coming up to me all through the day handing me bibs.
That's how big an impact you have on my life... and I love it!!! :)
